Artist in Residency

2015

Regina Pemsl

Residency Duration: March – May 2015

Regina Pemsl works as freelance artist and curator in the field of site specific installation public and community arts. She encourages people to add in artistic elements in their daily living environment, for example using “food“ as a theme. In 2008 she become a  founding member of the art and research group LeoPART and develops artistic strategies for civic participation.

Her main exhibition was called “City Body” which ran from 23 May – 04 June where Regina presented various visual installations as a result of her three-month residency program with Lostgens’. She developed artistic strategies that stimulate the perception of the human body to the city. Through her practical work, she invited the public to engage and interact with each other as well as to shape their own living environment.

One of the projects was called Jalan Panggung Hanging Garden where she placed and hung various pots of plants and flowers all along Jalan Panggong as a gesture to bring life and touch of greenery back to the rather deserted old street. And she also hoped that this would activate the participation from the public to take care of the plants.

Regina also did an installation called Cukup which she produced together with the participants in her workshop using food ingredients and there were also Varnish – a film portrait and My Little Kingdom – a walk followed by a Batik session.

Regina Pemsl exhibitions were held in Austria, Belgium, Danmark, Germany, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Switzerland, Poland and USA.

Regina participated in an art project in Nuremberg (Germany) called “Take the City in Hand” commissioned by the Office of Culture and Leisure (KUF) where she brings art into the public space around the two major underground train stations.
