LINTASAN/ CROSSOVER
Group Exhibition
An exhibition of selected works of Gonçalo Faro Macieira and Elias Yamani Ismail, two artists from different countries, backgrounds and cultures. Goncalo is from Portugal and Elias from Malaysia – nations that have crossed paths centuries ago, at the time sharing habits, rituals, language and history.
This show, curated by Sandra Krich, goes beyond the shared historical past and tries to understand some of the contemporary art produced in both places, through the works of these artists. Their creations, full of parallel universes, characters, masks, inventive shapes and materials show us different ways of seeing everyday objects, so common to our eyes, in an unusual light.
What does this say about art being done nowadays in both countries? How and where does the work of Elias and Gonçalo crosses over?
LINTASAN / CROSSOVER stretches its boundaries to other curators, artists and the public. Curators Sharmin Parameswaran and artist/curator Yeoh Lian Heng will be invited to discuss the show with the public on the 17th of June at 8pm.
On the 19th June , 6.30pm, Intan Rafiza, performance artist will create her own performance output driven from the exhibition. Artist Andrew Crum, founder of project Moments of Truth will lead a “Sketch Happening” in which several artists (and anyone in the public) can create fast drawings inspired on Intan’s performance, therefore creating several layers (and crossovers) of artistic interpretations.
