Bio

Amir Zainorin was born in 1963 in Johor, Malaysia . He grew up with two sisters and a brother in different places in Malaysia including Kelantan, Johor and Melaka. His father Zainorin Md Dom was a traditional ghazal singer and his mother, Azizah Abd Aziz worked in Telecom Malaysia.

Amir was greatly influenced by his parents involvement in music, but after high school he studied business at a local college in Perak. He worked in a bank in Kuala Lumpur after finishing his studies, but left it after two years to further his studies in the USA. In the states he studied at University of Conway Arkansas for a couple of years and later on moved to Kansas city to attend University of Missouri Kansas City. Here he lived next to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, an environment that developed his interest in the visual arts.

Coming back from the states in 1990 he settled in an advertising agency, as an account manager in Kuala Lumpur. Finding the advertising world rather stressful after some years, he decided to quit his full time job in 1995 and started on his own.

Shortly after he came in contact with Malaysian pop artist Jeri Azhari who inspired him to start painting. Jeri became his great friend and mentor over the years.

In 2002 Amir went to Indonesia. Here he met his Danish wife, and shortly after moved to Denmark where he currently lives.
